xaddr.com Client make long web addresses into easy-to-type tiny urls from your Windows desktop

xaddr.com is Tech-Pro's own address shortening service. You can use xaddr.com direct from the web, of course, but for added convenience xaddr.com offers a Windows client that lets you create short urls direct from your desktop!

The xaddr.com client runs as an icon in the system tray of the Windows task bar, ready for use whenever you need it. To use it, you just copy the address you wish to shorten to the Windows clipboard using Ctrl+C, and then click the icon.

The client checks that the clipboard contains a valid address, and then submits it to the xaddr.com server. The result is copied back to the clipboard ready to be pasted into your email or document, and a balloon pops up to tell you the url your long address has been shortened to.

Unlike many alternative services, xaddr.com works with ftp and email addresses as well as web addresses. xaddr.com urls are also safer than those created by many other services.

Some short urls take you directly to the target address. This has been exploited by unscrupulous users to trick people into opening pages that contain spyware, pop-up ads or offensive material.

The urls created by xaddr.com take you to a landing page where the target address is displayed. You have to click on the address to open the target. This gives you a chance to see where the short url is going so you can change your mind if the destination address looks suspicious or not what you expected.
